Selena Gomez Reunites With James Franco For Movie Adaptation Of Steinbeck’s ‘In Dubious Battle’

Selena Gomez has landed a role in the James Franco-directed movie adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1936 classic novel, In Dubious Battle.

The actress-singer previously worked with the author-actor-director in the Harmony Korine-helmed Spring Breakers in 2012.

Gomez, 22, is currently shooting The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving with Paul Rudd in Atlanta, from where she has shared numerous social media posts.

As yet, details about the part Selena will play in In Dubious Battle have not been revealed, but she will join heavy-hitters Robert Duval, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston, Danny McBride, and Vincent D’Onofrio in the cast.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, shooting on the film kicks off in March.

Nutshelled, In Dubious Battle follows the story of a labor activist who tries to organize a strike among fruit pickers in Central California.

Deadline reports that Franco will direct Gomez and the rest of the cast from a screenplay by Matt Rager, who also wrote the script for Franco’s 2013 film As I Lay Dying, based on the William Faulkner novel. Noting exceptions The Interview and Spring Breakers, Franco has a background in literature and previously starred in a Broadway version of Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from UCLA, a master’s in creative writing from Columbia University, and is also a Ph.D. candidate in English at Yale University.

Franco has also penned several books. Actors Anonymous, a short story collection (Palo Alto), a poetry book (Directing Herbert White), an autobiography (A California Childhood) and an essay, collage collection (Hollywood Dreaming). He is set to star in two literary adaptations this year: The Little Prince and The Adderall Diaries.

Meanwhile, Selena’s love life continues to draw interest, following her much-talked split with on-off boyfriend, Justin Bieber.

Following a seeming debut of new beau producer and DJ Zedd at Golden Globes parties last month, the Grammy winning muso was reportedly seen kissing the Latina starlet last month in Atlanta.

The pair went on a whirl of dinner, bowling, and sight-seeing dates, amid flirtatious social media posts which included a tease of the expected Gomez-featuring Zedd single “I Want You To Know.”

Just days ago, Zedd posted an Instagram photo of himself and Selena, which showed the pair in a recording studio.

The 25-year-old captioned the shot, “I’m on the left.”
