Fifth Harmony Drops Debut Album, Perform ‘Sledgehammer’ On ‘Today Show’ [Video]

The all-girl music group, Fifth Harmony, has finally released their very first full-length LP, Reflection. Fifth Harmony fans have been waiting a full two years for this album to come out after it suffered a number of delays. To celebrate the release, Fifth Harmony made an appearance on The Today Show to perform one of the singles off the album, “Sledgehammer.”

You can watch the segment in the video below, featuring the members of Fifth Harmony in matching sailor-esque uniforms. The girls gave an energetic performance, with the blended harmonies of their namesake and some impressive choreographed dance moves. Fifth Harmony also gave a brief interview before the song to talk about the themes of the album and what it’s like to be on tour.

Fifth Harmony is arguably becoming the biggest girl pop band since the Spice Girls, but is their new album Reflection good enough to earn the girls a place on the charts? Time gave the new Fifth Harmony record a fairly positive review, claiming that the album is full of a surprising number of layers and stylistic variety. Fifth Harmony’s melodies can be enjoyed for what they are, but the band also incorporates deeper massages of optimism, positivity, and female empowerment.

“It’s not a stretch to state that with a little more work and personal growth, Fifth Harmony can mature into the kind of role models — both musical and social — that have so profoundly impacted their work to date. The girls have plenty of time to find a distinct musical identity, but it’s clear from Reflection that they have more important pieces in place: precision, agility and a strong sense of self.”
