Katy Perry Super Bowl 2015: The 10 Ways She Prepared For The Halftime Show

Katy Perry held a press conference during Super Bowl week. The conference wasn’t without Perry’s cute looks and bubbly personality. As the game’s halftime performer, she answered many questions on Thursday, ranging from her costumes to her surprise musical guests. Perry also revealed to Billboard other ways she prepared for her halftime performance.

1. She made a deflate-gate joke.

Perry even made a deflate-gate joke at the press conference. The singer said, “Nothing in my performance will be deflated.” Of course, Perry was joking about her infamous breasts. There has been speculation as to whether the singer will have a wardrobe malfunction of her own. Super Bowl fans are hoping that Perry will have a wardrobe malfunction just so they could catch a glimpse of her breasts.

2. She also made a Marshawn Lynch joke.

Katy even made a joke in reference to Marshawn Lynch. When the topic quickly turned to her love life, Katy responded, “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.” In true Lynch fashion, Katy repeated the line again. She was channeling the Seattle Seahawks running back, Marshawn Lynch, who gained famed for refusing to answer reporters’ questions, according to FOX Sports.

3. She dropped a few hints about her halftime show.

Perry did drop a few hints about her halftime performance. She said that her performance will include a “lion and sharks.” Perry added, “It’s going to be wild out there.” As for her Super Bowl costume – or costumes, rather – Perry said about her opening act outfit, “It’s going to be flaming hot. Not the Cheeto.”

4. She even confirmed there will be a surprise musical guest.

Katy also confirmed that there will be a surprise musical guest. In addition to Lenny Kravitz, there have been rumors that another star will join Katy onstage. Katy told the press about her not-so-mysterious musical guest.

“I thought long and hard about it. It will be a throwback of sorts that definitely needed some more shine. All I can say is it will be a real female fun night. When this person enters the stage and you hear the first ring of a chord, I think jaws will drop and faces will melt.”

It’s already been confirmed that Missy Elliot will be Katy Perry’s surprise musical guest. The rapper will join the singer during a special performance of her hit single “Last Friday Night.”

6. She texted Bruno Mars for tips.

Perry also revealed that she texted Bruno Mars for tips on pulling out a killer performance. Doesn’t sound like she needs it when she has Lenny Kravtiz and Missy Elliott with her on stage. Perry revealed her full text to Billboard.

“Hello, exclusive Super Bowl club member! I was wondering if you are in L.A. at all this month and would have tea with a sister who is about to throw up with nervousness re: [football emoji]. I’ve heard about your process through our managers, but am wondering if you had more insight on important things like, spray tan the night before or three nights before? JK, or maybe not!”

7. She studied Madonna and Beyonce’s past performances.

Katy is also reviewing past halftime performances from Madonna and Beyonce. She appreciates that the singers kept the songs in their catalog. Katy also applauded Madonna for her use of “graphic effects.” As for Beyonce, Katy added, “She brought so much strength, so much sassiness and just the right amount of sex.”

8. She’s been getting massages.

Perry has reportedly been receiving physical therapy for her knees. She’s also been preparing for her halftime show by getting acupuncture, massages and steam for her voice. The singer is also a multitasker. According to Billboard, Perry was getting a massage for her hamstring while she critiqued one of her dancers’ costumes.

9. She’s controlling her dancers’ cleavage, along with her own. (Sorry, guys!)

Katy may be known for her big bosom, but she’s also keeping a close eye on her dancers’ cleavage. She told one dancer while speaking to Billboard, “Your boobies are a little too much for that.” The singer is very cautious about not having a wardrobe malfunction during her halftime performance.

10. She’s choosing the right guests.

Perry is obviously aware of past Super Bowl controversies involving Janet Jackson’s nipple slip and M.I.A.’s middle finger. She wanted to choose the right guests for her performance.

Perry said of Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot, “You can’t control other people, and hopefully they’re on the same path with you My special guests don’t have any agenda other than the music.”

Katy Perry has also graced the covers of Billboard magazine and ESPN magazine this week. This Sunday, Feb. 1 Katy will take the stage at the Super Bowl XLIX to perform her highly-anticipated halftime show.
