WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan began 2014 as well as anyone could imagine. He main evented WrestleMania 30, won the WWE World Heavyweight Title, and got married. Sadly, the year took a turn soon after. His father passed away, and Bryan ended up having surgery that could have ended his career. Originally, the surgery was said to be minor, but something changed along the way. Bryan had issues with his arm, and without it, there would be no way he could wrestle.
It was rumored that he might need yet another surgery, one that could keep him out of action for another number of months. Instead, Bryan chose rehab and was able to get full use and strength out of his arm. He came back to WWE this month and has been great since. WWE was said to be very surprised at how well Bryan was able to keep his fan base despite being away for so long.
Despite this, WWE will never acknowledge Bryan as their top man. According to Daily Wrestling News, a WWE source noted that no matter how over Bryan gets and no matter how much they rally for him, WWE will never see him as a top guy who can be the face of the company.
Bryan simply does not fit the look WWE wants for their top man slot, which we all know by now. Of course, this is why people love him in the first place, so WWE still has to deal with that sort of thing.
The source also claimed that WWE refused to budge as they did last year and throw Bryan into the main event of WrestleMania. The current plan that WWE has in place is for Bryan to face Dolph Ziggler at WrestleMania. Many see this as a new age Randy Savage/Ricky Steamboat match, or it at least has the potential to be.
WWE is currently thinking about having this match open the show. Most would see this as a very bad idea by WWE. The match, by all estimation, will be fantastic and having everyone follow the match could be very bad. This is especially true if WWE keeps the current main event in place with Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
We got the feeling on WWE SmackDown last night that WWE will be changing the main event in some way, but we currently do not know how WWE plans to do it. Regardless, it is said that neither Bryan nor Ziggler will appear in the main event as it currently stands.
WWE does not rule out ever putting Bryan back into the WrestleMania main event again, but he will never be the top name in the promotion. He will have what many call the CM Punk treatment. He will be a big name internally who fans love, but he will not be the man WWE uses in all the promotional material. Someone like Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns fits this more in WWE’s eyes, which is why they will get a top guy status before Bryan ever does, regardless of the love he receives from fans.
