Rowlf From ‘The Muppets’ Awesomely Sings Biz Markie’s ‘Just A Friend’

The Muppets honestly may be some of the best characters ever created, and that has been known for countless years. Rowlf is a very underrated character in the world of Muppets, but he always has a good place behind the piano. Now, he’s accomplished his greatest feat and it is covering Biz Markie’s “Just A Friend.”

It’s a video that lasts a mere 89 seconds and it has rightfully gone viral in a big hurry. It was posted by YouTube user isthishowyougoviral on January 25, and as of Monday night, it already had over 82,000 views.

The description of the video is incredibly simple and gets right to the point.

“The Muppets perform their version of the Biz Markie classic, ‘Just a Friend (You Got What I Need).’ Starring Rowlf the Dog, and Miss Piggy. Video by Mylo the Cat.”

In the video, Rowlf is at many of his trusty pianos and begins playing the love ballad that is sung so eloquently by Biz Markie. The hit single, release in 1989, has just the first verse sung by Rowlf, and it’s a shame that he didn’t continue.

When it finally comes down to it, the song tells an interesting story as he is singing it to Miss Piggy. Well, anyone who is a fan of the Muppets knows who her “friend” is, and that happens to be Kermit the Frog.

The video is making the internet rounds and it is getting a lot of attention. HitFix may have said it best when it comes to repeat viewings of Rowlf singing “Just A Friend.”

“Frankly, I don’t want this video to be as funny as it is, but I’m still laughing. Still.”

This isn’t the first time that the Muppets have covered a hit song and likely won’t be the last. Ultimate Classic Rock counted down the top five covers from the Muppets, and while you may not agree with some, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is the obvious favorite.

Some other songs have been covered by the Muppets and another big-time favorite is an old Christmas favorite.

Even though there are no words, the Swedish Chef, Animal, and Beaker got together for the holidays and sang “Ringing of the Bells.” Do yourself a huge favor and watch that one repeatedly until Christmas rolls around again.

Rowlf’s love ballad to Miss Piggy is only the latest in a long line of covers by the Muppets, and it surely won’t be the last. Biz Markie can be nothing but proud and honored that “Just A Friend” was covered in such a classy and awesome way.
