Tim Burton Teases Fans With Talk Of ‘Beetlejuice’ Sequel

Tim Burton, who some believe is among the most influential directors of the last three decades, is hinting at the creation of a Beetlejuice 2 film following years of fan requests for a sequel. For the past year, rumors of talks between Burton and key actors, like Beetlejuice star Michael Keaton, have been reported by RollingStone and MTV News, but no concrete plans have surfaced – until now.

Currently working on Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which is scheduled for a spring 2016 release, Tim Burton’s conversations with interested parties clearly indicate that the director is motivated for Beetlejuice 2.

In previous interviews, Burton has been quoted as saying, “There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael.”

The screenwriter, Seth Grahame-Smith, wrote Beetlejuice 2 with this sentiment in mind, which is proving irresistible for Burton. Much like the director’s beloved patchwork creatures in A Nightmare Before Christmas, the details of Beetlejuice 2 are slowly coming together. A 2014 interview conducted by RollingStone revealed Keaton’s plans to return to the cast for a sequel after years of casual conversation about its creation.

Although an ongoing dialogue between Keaton and Tim Burton have been occurring for years, Keaton reports, “We’ve talked to each other, and emailed each other, and if he’s in, it’s going to be hard not to be in.”

In the past, Keaton hesitated to jump on board with Beetlejuice 2 if Tim Burton was not going to direct the film. Now, however, that barrier seems to be eliminated.

The award-winning director and cinematic visionary, Tim Burton, is among the most known of the last half century, with more than 50 awards won in his career. Burton’s eye for talent and knack for pushing the envelope of creativity has helped many actors propel their careers to new heights, including Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter (Burton’s ex-girlfriend, as the Inquisitr reported), and Winona Ryder.

Just recently, Ryder excitedly exclaimed her interest in returning as Lidia, particularly when informed Keaton was on board. Despite all three actors having varying degrees of experience and fame, simply playing a Burton role (such as Edward Scissorhands for Johnny Depp) has proved to be a wise career move for many performers.

Most likely, a completed Beetlejuice 2 will necessitate input from Tim Burton’s 25-year long colleague Danny Elfman, an internationally renowned composer and the mastermind behind the musical scores of top-grossing films. Less than five years after winning the IFMCA Award for a soundtrack album, Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box, Tim Burton is now hinting that a return of everyone’s favorite bio-exorcist is on the horizon.
