The Weeknd’s ‘Earned It’ Video Teases S&M In Upcoming ‘Fifty Shades’ Adaptation

It’s been an explosive last few years for The Weeknd since he first rose to prominence with his critically acclaimed mixtape House of Balloons in 2011. Then, it was difficult to imagine that The Weeknd would be behind the lead single of the most hotly anticipated movie adaptations of the year — Fifty Shades of Grey. After all, The Weeknd’s trippy style, not too distant from something like “Earned It,” couldn’t ever crack the mainstream, right?

Fast forward to 2015, when Lana Del Rey’s grim tainted romance tracks are inescapable, and FKA Twigs has become perhaps the most experimental female pop star to yet grace the stage. It’s not so strange to hear a song that is both stirring and unnerving on the radio anymore, and that’s where The Weeknd comes in with his new song “Earned It.”

In true music royalty fashion, The Weeknd has not only earned himself movie contracts, but he’s also become a part of another distinguished honor in the entertainment industry: gossip about his personal life. The Weeknd recently made headlines for being involved in a 30-person brawl in Las Vegas where he was performing. After being hauled away from the action, The Weeknd reportedly became outraged and hit a police officer in the face, the Inquisitr previously reported.
