Bradley Cooper Leads Casting Race To Play New Green Lantern In DC Movie Universe?

Even though he has already played Rocket Raccoon in the Marvel Movie Universe, Bradley Cooper could end up donning the mask of the Green Lantern in the DC world. With Green Lantern getting a reboot for a new film in 2020, it looks like Ryan Reynolds is definitely out and it could be Cooper that takes over for him.

According to Forbes, Bradley Cooper actually tops the list of actors that should step in to play the role of Green Lantern, aka Hal Jordan.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Cooper has been in talks for the role. Back in 2009, he even auditioned for the role of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern that eventually went to Ryan Reynolds, according to Collider.

Cooper is a huge box office catch right now as he is lighting it up with American Sniper and never quite fails to make some money for a studio.

Some may think that Cooper may not be at the right age to play the Green Lantern since he just turned 40 and the stand-alone film won’t hit until 2020. By then, he’ll be 45 and that just may seem a bit far-fetched.

Well, that may actually work out as an advantage for DC and Warner Bros. Justice League: Part 1 is due out in 2017 and Justice League: Part 2 hits theaters in 2019. Green Lantern could be introduced in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice or Wonder Woman, appear in both Justice League films and bam — Cooper works in the role.

From there, he could end up passing the torch to another (see: younger) version of Green Lantern, who would then take over the stand-alone film in 2020. It really works.

Jordan (Cooper) could pass the ring off to either Jon Stewart or Guy Gardner and it would keep the character fresh. It would also allow for the franchise to continue even if the original actor is not able to carry on.

That whole idea could be nothing like what Warner Bros. has in mind, and Bradley Cooper may not even be what DC has in mind for Green Lantern. Still, it all makes a lot of sense and really works into the whole slate of DC Comic films that will be coming out over the course of the next decade.

The DC movie universe has made huge strides in recent months with its slate of films announced and finally giving the green light to Justice League. Now, they simply need to make the right casting decisions and keep going forward to the Hall of Justice.
