Montana Man Sentenced To 200 Years For Impregnating 11-Year-Old Granddaughter

A Montana man was sentenced to 200 years in prison for impregnating his 11-year-old granddaughter and sexually abusing her little sister. Although he was a previously convicted sex offender, authorities confirmed 55-year-old Makeal Shane Pruett was the legal guardian of both girls.

In June 2014, the 11-year-old was taken to a medical clinic, as she was experiencing painful cramps. The doctors were stunned to discover she was 32 weeks pregnant.

When questioned about the pregnancy, the girl said she was unaware she was pregnant. However, she eventually admitted having sex with a 14-year-old boy, who she met at the Ravalli County Fair.

Children’s advocate Val Widmer was assigned to interview the girl and monitor her through the remainder of her pregnancy. Widmer was specifically concerned, as the date of the county fair did not correspond with the 11-year-old’s due date. However, the girl stuck to her original story.

Two months later, after her child was born, the girl confessed to what really happened. The 11-year-old said Makeal Shane Pruett entered her bedroom on numerous occasions and forced her to have sex. She also said Pruett also made up the story about the 14-year-old boy and encouraged his granddaughter to lie.

In the course of investigation, authorities learned that Pruett also molested the 11-year-old’s younger sister. Even more disturbing, the grandfather had a history of sexually abusing children.

In 1980, Pruett was arrested and charged with “taking indecent liberties” with a child in another state. However, authorities said “most of the records in that case had been lost.”

In 1985, he was arrested and charged with molesting his niece in Idaho. Although he initially fled, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, the case was later dismissed.

On January 22, Ravalli County District Judge Jeffrey Langton sentenced Pruett to 200 years in prison, During sentencing, Langton noted that the defendant appeared to “lack any semblance of a conscience.”

Ravalli County Attorney Bill Fulbright echoed the judge’s observations about the defendant.

“… over the course of his life, he has set no boundaries when it comes to committing sexual offenses… Everything about the defendant’s life and conduct in Ravalli County has earned him [the sentence].”

As reported by Daily Mail, officials with the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office said Pruett has a disturbing history of sexually abusing children that spans several decades. They are currently investigating claims that he abused other children, including a three-year-old girl.

Although he was sentenced to 200 years, Makeal Shane Pruett will be eligible for parole — when he is 105 years old.
