Julia Roberts To Star In Heartwarming Batkid Movie [Video]

The lovely and multi-talented Julia Roberts is taking on a new project, which she will both star in and produce. Roberts is detailing the story of Miles Scott, a.k.a. Batkid, the little boy with leukemia who made a unique request of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Batkid’s day as a superhero is recounted in Dana Nachman’s documentary, Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World. Julia Roberts was so touched by this little guy that she plans to remake the picture into a feature film.

The documentary relates the events of the day when Miles’ fondest wish came true, and he magically morphed into a superhero for the day. His first choice? Batman, of course! Thousands of people came together in response to the sweet little boy’s wish, turning San Francisco into Gotham City and Miles into the Mini Caped Crusader. Batkid participated in staged events with the Riddler and the Penguin, and was offered the keys to the city by Mayor Ed Lee. USA Today reports the wonderful news that Miles is currently in remission. Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World is scheduled to premiere today at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City. See the trailer below.

Julia Roberts is reportedly playing the role of Patricia Wilson, CEO of the Bay Area chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Ms. Wilson was the driving force behind creating Batkid’s special day.

Documentary producer Nachman is excited to have the attention of Julia Roberts. Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill, Red Oms Film partners with Julia Roberts, will also be producing. Dana Nachman will perform the duties of executive producer.

“It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and capital were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles’ story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do.”
