San Francisco is buzzing with celebrity photos as the filming for the new Steve Jobs movie begins. Starting on January 21, local media began reporting on the celebrities seen around the Berkeley area where the Steve Jobs film will begin shooting. Although most media about Steve Jobs relates to his legacy of Apple products, his fans are anticipating the new biopic about his life as much as they are the next iPhone model.
After several attempts to make the Steve Jobs movie over the past two years, the project is finally up and running. The Steve Jobs movie is written by Aaron Sorkin and will be directed by Danny Boyle, who is famed for 28 Days Later and Slumdog Millionaire.
In November, USA Today reported that, after losing Christian Bale as the lead for playing Steve Jobs, Michael Fassbender finally accepted the role. The ongoing turmoil surrounding getting the film started caused Sony to drop the Steve Jobs biopic, but Deadline states that Universal immediately picked up the movie.
The SF Gate reports that filming began in Berkeley on January 23, and there was a sighting of Danny Boyle by San Francisco journalist Matt O’Brien at “La Med Restaurant in Berkeley’s Elmwood District.”

Throughout the weekend, there will be more possible sighting. Cult of Mac reports that “[h]aving been through numerous production difficulties en route to getting made (pretty much like any Apple product then!), the movie is shooting in and around Berkeley’s La Méditerranée restaurant at 2936 College Ave., between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday.” Filming for the Steve Jobs movie began earlier in January in Los Altos, where he grew up.
Each time an area is filmed, the street is filled with cars from the decade being presented in the film. For instance, license plates on the cars were changed in Berkeley because the 1980s was being portrayed in the Steve Jobs movie. For this reason, there were posts on Twitter on January 23 of crews changing out license plates on cars parked in Berkeley. There were also other celebrity sightings.

The Mercury News states that stars Michael Fassbender and Seth Rogen “were expected to spend Friday night acting out a scene inside La Méditerranée — a restaurant known as ‘La Med’ by locals — on College Avenue in the Elmwood neighborhood.” They also state that director Danny Boyle has already been shooting film for the Steve Jobs movie in the Bay Area earlier in January, and will also make stops in other Bay Area cities besides San Francisco, Berkeley, and San Jose.

ABC News 7 reported on the filming of the Steve Jobs movie and said that celebrity fans could expect to see Michael Fassbender, Seth Rogen, and Kate Winslet in Berkeley. Along with the filming at La Mediterranee in Berkeley on Friday, they will be shooting in San Francisco and Cupertino over the weekend of January 23 to January 25.
In addition to getting to see celebrities in their community around College Avenue and Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, locals in the San Francisco Bay Area are invited to be in the Steve Jobs movie. The website BeInAMovie announced the offer to the public and stated the filming dates were January 31 in San Jose. According to the Mercury News, “The moviemakers have also combed the Bay Area for shaggy-haired, bearded extras, giving locals a chance to play a small part in the life of a local legend.”
