El Paso Boxer Allegedly Murdered By Husbands Twin; Family Grieves

A well-known El Paso boxer and her husband were found shot to death in their apartment Wednesday evening in Wichita, KVIA reports.

According to KFox14, El Paso police found the slain bodies of 22-year-old Lucero Rodriguez and Manuel Alvarado-Meraz in their apartment. Luis, Alvarado-Meraz’s twin, has been arrested and charged with both murders.

No further information has been released about the case.

Friends and family spoke with reporters about the unfortunate incident, in disbelief that anyone would want kill someone so kind and loving.

Bianca Rodriguez spoke with reporters and stated the following.

“To everybody she was a friend, she was not an enemy. She was a boxer; I have no more words… I’m not going to hear her laugh; I’m not going to see her on top of the ring no more… It was a donation, an angel; I would like to know who it was. I would like to pay them back… She was planning to come back, that was a surprise… She never gave me a day when she was coming back, but I never thought it would be this way.”

“I don’t know why he would do something like that to my sister or even his own brother,” Lucero’s brother said tearfully.

“Honestly, I’m going to miss everything about her,” said Lucero’s family member, Freddy Rodriguez.

Freddy also stated that it was Lucero who motivated him to give boxing a try. Without her motivation, he wouldn’t be where he is. Eduardo Alvarado was Lucero’s boxing coach for approximately three years. He said her drive to box left a huge impact on the community.

“The one thing I saw about her was that she was very motivated into doing what she was doing… She’s watching over them, and the comfort of that should ease the pain a little bit.”

“She just hugged me real tight and she said, ‘It’s true’ and I was like, ‘No it’s not, no it’s not, it can’t be, it can’t be,'” said Claudia Coria, a family friend, discussing the moment she first heard about the murder of Lucero.

“She would go out of her way to help you, no matter if she just got paid and she was going to be left with no money. She would do it for you, you know?” Claudia continued.

As of now, the Rodriguez is asking for donations to help bring Lucero home to El Pas, Texas. She and her husband were living in Wichita at the time of her death. The family’s goal is to raise $15,000, which will include Lucero’s funeral expensives. You can donate to the family on GoFundMe. They are listed as “Bring Lucero Home.”

The investigation of the El Paso double homicide is ongoing.
