‘The Voice’ Reportedly Has Meghan Trainor On Board

The Voice has proven itself to be a huge hit amongst a crowd of similar competitive talent shows, and part of the attraction is the slew of guest musicians who show up to perform and to mentor the up-and-coming stars. For Season 8, producers have reportedly tapped some hot young stars as well as a legendary veteran to come in and help out, including Meghan Trainor.

Trainor — whose huge hit “All About That Bass” took off in 2014 and spawned several covers — has performed on the show in the past and teamed up with coach Blake Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert, to do a version of the song at last year’s CMAs. While NBC hasn’t confirmed their mentor lineup for the upcoming season, rumor has it that Trainor will be joined by Lionel Richie, Nick Jonas, and Ellie Goulding.

Original Voice coach Christina Aguilera will be returning for the new season — which begins on February 23 — as well, following a two-season hiatus during which she had a baby girl. The singer, who is working on her eighth album at the moment, will join Shelton, Adam Levine, and Pharrell Williams.

Although Aguilera tweeted recently that she’s excited to be back on the show, rumor has it that not everyone feels that way. OK! Magazine has reported that some of the coaches wanted Gwen Stefani to come back for the new season because they liked the chemistry better with her, but a source says producers didn’t agree.

“They think Gwen is a little vanilla and that the show’s become too nice. Christina is more controversial and can be a bit of a mean girl, and that’s the kind of attitude that makes for great TV.”

While it’s unclear whether there’s been drama between Aguilera and the other Voice coaches, Blake Shelton did joke late last year that he’s been doing his job under the influence, prompting some to wonder if maybe the singer’s return was causing some tension.

Of the rumored guests for the new season, Lionel Richie is the only one who has mentored before, but the others have all performed on The Voice in the past. Richie is rumored to be pairing up with Pharrell Williams, while Goulding will help Adam Levine, Jonas will work with Christina Aguilera, and Trainor will be working with Blake Shelton.
