Johnny Depp Isn’t An ‘Artist’, He’s Just ‘Weird’

We know Johnny Depp because of the iconic and diverse characters he has played. From Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Captain Jack Sparrow to the one and only Edward Scissorhands, Depp is a true artist. But if you ask him, or his kids for that matter, they’ll tell you that Depp is just “weird.”

Depp admitted that when preparing for his character in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he got assistance from his daughter, Lily Rose, who is now 14-years-old. When Entertainment Tonight asked the Blow star if he had gotten assistance from her in creating his latest character, Mortdecai, he answered in true Depp fashion, with an unusual response.

Depp told ET, “She was probably too embarrassed to help me with another character. She thinks her dad is weird.”

Now most people would say the same about their own parents, but I guess when your dad is the scarf-wearing, eye liner rocking, elusive, random-comment-making Depp, you have a case.

When ET correspondent, Jason Dundas, replied that Depp wasn’t weird but instead an “artist,” Depp had another classic Depp response.

“Uh, her dad’s weird, I think.”

Weird, yes, but lovable, too.

Depp has recently gone on record to say that he will never produce a record. When speaking with the Sydney Morning Herald at a press conference in Berlin, Depp made it very clear how he feels about actors cashing in on their fame to become musicians.

“That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it’s always just made me sick…I’ve been very lucky to play on friends’ records and it’s still going. Music is still part of my life. But you won’t be hearing The Johnny Depp Band. That won’t ever exist.”

Way to insult the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Macauley Caulkin, and Eddie Murphy – all stars who have cashed on in their fame to produce a record.

And if that weren’t enough weirdness for you, Depp has admitted to wearing a “chick ring.” In another interview with E! News, Depp admitted that the first ring he picked out for fiancé of one year, Amber Heard, was too big. So instead of resizing or returning, Depp has decided to wear it.

I don’t think you can ever tire of Johnny Depp’s antics.

Let’s hope that his newest character and movie of the same title, Mortdecai, shares with us his signature artistry or weirdness, whatever you choose to call it.

Mortdecai starring Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Paul Bettany is due out in theaters tomorrow, January 23.
