Katie Holmes And Tom Cruise: Custody ‘Showdown’ Rumors Untrue, Holmes ‘Stronger’ Since Divorce

After rumors began flying that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were set for a courtroom “explosive showdown” over custody of daughter Suri, as well as over financial issues and secrets that Cruise was locking away, Holmes’ rep has simmered the reports and indicated that all are untrue.

Many reports in various magazines, including In Touch and Celebrity Dirty Laundry, have described Katie as being “upset” and feeling that she has a huge amount of pressure on her seeing as she is pretty much the sole caregiver to Suri. Celebrity Dirty Laundry included the following in a recent article about the Batman Begins star.

“There’s reportedly a clause in their divorce that allows Katie to ask for more money if ‘circumstances have significantly changed’ since the document was signed back in 2012. And let’s be real – circumstances have most definitely changed. Tom Cruise might have pretended to be the doting dad for a few months – even a year – after the divorce, but he’s spent so much time working and away from his daughter that the ‘heavy-lifting’ really has fallen on Katie.”

Although Holmes and Cruise do not have the perfect post-split relationship, Katie’s rep shared that Katie is not the defeated and hopeless caregiver that these magazines have made her out to be. The source told Fashion & Style that “Holmes is not afraid of him anymore,” and is a different person since their divorce, with more strength.

Katie recently spoke to People candidly about the divorce, and how she intends to keep her split from Cruise from defining who she is and from defining her future.

“I don’t have any fear now, I don’t have a lot of rules for myself, and I don’t take myself that seriously. I don’t want that moment in my life (the divorce) to define me, to be who I am. I don’t want that to be what I’m known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now.”

Katie also added that she is constantly learning every day and that part of that “learning curve is accepting that things don’t always go smoothly at home.”

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were married from 2006 to 2012. After their split in 2012, Holmes received primary custody of Suri. As Fashion & Style mentioned, after the decision was reached regarding custody of Suri Cruise, Katie and Tom released a joint statement.

“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”

Thirty-six-year-old Holmes has big projects on the horizon, including taking a shot in the director’s seat for a production of All We Had, a film adaptation of Annie Weatherwax’s bestselling novel of the same name.

Her Mission: Impossible star ex has not been quite as present in their eight-year-old daughter’s life as Katie would have hoped, but she looks like she’s got things pretty well covered and is taking on the role of single mommy splendidly.
