‘The Voice’ Mentors Revealed: Pharrell Picks Classic Over Current?

The Voice mentors for Season 8 have reportedly been revealed!

Us Weekly released the list of selected mentors Tuesday night – and it’s impressive.

Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera all seemed to go for current chart-topping artists that have Top 40 hits. Pharrell Williams, on the other hand, decided to take a more “classic” approach to the selection process of The Voice mentors.

“Lionel Richie will help Team Pharrell Williams, Ellie Goulding will mentor Team Adam Levine, Nick Jonas will handle Team Christina Aguilera and Meghan Trainor will assist Team Blake Shelton.”

There are a number of different reasons why Pharrell Williams may have decided to go with a “classic” hit maker instead of a more “current” one by adding Lionel Richie to the team of The Voice mentors. Unlike the other choices, Lionel Richie has actually done this job before.

Nearly three years ago, Lionel Richie was one of the mentors chosen for Season 2 by Christina Aguilera. While it is true that the Season 2 winner did not come from Christina’s team, there is still much to be said about the fact that Lionel Richie has experience with the overall process that none of the other new mentors have.

In addition, Lionel Richie’s career and resume of successful hits extends far beyond the births of all of his competing mentors.

To put things in perspective, Lionel’s third solo album, Dancing on the Ceiling, was originally released nearly five months before the birth of 28-year-old Ellie Goulding – the second-oldest of The Voice mentors.

Therefore, when it comes to identifying potential and being a solid mentor when it comes to singing and performances, Lionel Richie comes to the table with the most long-term expertise.

None of ‘The Voice’ mentors will enter the competition once the battle round stag begins. Therefore, fans and critics of ‘The Voice’ will have to wait until blind auditions are finished before criticizing how the new mentors measure up.

Christina Aguilera will finally be returning as a coach after taking Season 7 off to give birth to her daughter, Summer Rain, last August.

In the finals of Season 7, ‘The Voice’ ended with a battle between Team Adam Levine and Team Blake Shelton. Shelton walked away with the victory (again) thanks to Craig Wayne Boyd.

Now that The Voice mentors have been confirmed, which team do you think has the best chance of winning Season 8?
