Johnny Depp Is Charlie Mortdecai This Coming Friday And Happy To Be With Amber Heard [Video]

Friday sees the launch of the movie, Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ewan McGregor, but last night saw the premiere of the upcoming comedy film. Of interest to note, Paltrow was nowhere to be seen at the premiere, but Amber Heard, Depp’s leading lady in life, was there with a great big smile on her face.

Despite rumors of a split, it seems Depp and Heard are together and happy to be so, as both were full of smiles and definitely together while walking the red carpet at the premiere of Mortdecai in London.

Some were spreading a rumor about the closeness of Depp and Paltrow during the recent filming of Mortdecai. The Inquisitr noted a series of friendly selfies taken by the pair, showing how close they are. It does seem, however, to be only friendship, as now Depp and Heard are out in public and looking so happy.

The loving couple met when filming the 2011 movie The Rum Diary, making their relationship public in 2012 and then announcing their engagement in 2014. Just prior to announcing their relationship, Johnny put an end to his 14-year relationship with French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, with whom he has two children.

In the new movie, Johnny Depp plays Charlie Mortdecai, a “robustly mustachioed purveyor of fine art and a lovable scoundrel with an interest in interesting things,” according to the Twitter account of, well, one Charlie Mortdecai. That profile released a couple of tweets, advising that Depp will be doing a great and uncanny impersonation of Charlie Mortdecai starting Friday.

“Charlie Mortdecai” also invites everyone to join him on his grand adventures, starting on Friday, January 23.

In an interview with Johnny Depp, posted on the Daily Mail website, Depp says that to him, “Mortdecai has definitely earned his mustache, and once that mustache was planted on him, he can’t take it off.” And that fabulously curled mustache is definitely a scene-stealer. In fact, there are billboards devoted to that curly bit of hair.

Basically, Depp plays the part of an art-dealing aristocrat, Charlie Mortdecai, who is a little short of cash right now. According to Johnny’s make-up artist, Joel Harlow, the mustache is a “great source of pride” to Mortdecai, but Depp’s screen wife, played by Paltrow, has different feelings about it.

Depp himself says that the character knows exactly what a mustache can do, and that he knows how to use it.

According to a report from USA Today, it wasn’t an easy task. They quoted Harlow as saying he created 30 different mustache styles, using real hair. Different lengths, curls and color were tried out until Depp chose the final thing. And an elegant mustache is certainly is. Have a look in the preview video below. Now that filming is over, Johnny Depp has returned his to own, rather more natural, mustache, which he is apparently cultivating for his next performance as the famous Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, set to be in cinemas in 2017.

Harlow closed by saying that, “Captain Jack needs his mustache and it’s coming in nicely.”

While we will all have to be patient for the Captain Jack side of Johnny Depp, this Friday, Mortdecai will be on the big screen for all to see.
