The Bourne Legacy: First Look at Jeremy Renner As Aaron Cross

Jeremy Renner will be taking over the reigns of the Bourne franchise this August when “The Bourne Legacy” hits theaters. But Renner won’t be stepping into Matt Damon’s shoes. The “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” actor will be playing Aaron Cross in the first installment of the series without Damon.

The Bourne series has lost its star for the time being, but it hasn’t lost any star power. In addition to Renner, “The Bourne Legacy” will feature Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, and Albert Finney.

As for the story line, director Tony Gilroy said that “The Bourne Legacy” will introduce a whole new chapter to the series. Gilroy told Mania.com:

“This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one’s replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter…this is a stand-alone project. The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal… Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he’s very much alive. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens. I’m building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy… the world we’re making enhances and advances and invites Jason Bourne’s return [down the road].”

Jeremy Renner has already traveled down to the Philippines to start shooting the new movie, and things haven’t exactly started off on the right foot. Last night, one of Renner’s drinking pals was seriously injured after an altercation at a bar.
