The announcement has come from Gearbox today that The Handsome Collection of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be getting the next-gen treatment for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this spring. The question, “when is it coming to next-gen?” is one of the most often asked questions of Gearbox according to their announcement today and the answer is March 24, 2015 for North America and March 27, 2015 internationally for $59.99. The port is being handled by Armature Studio and Iron Galaxy.

The collection is titled The Handsome Collection due in part to the collection centering around the character Handsome Jack. This answers, in part, why the original Borderlands is quite noticeably absent from the collection. However it might have more to do with the original Borderlands relying on the now defunct GameSpy network which shut down in 2014, as the Inquisitr covered at that time. The GameSpy network was used to handle online multiplayer and the cost it would ensue to recode Borderlands is more likely the reason it is not included in The Handsome Collection.
The Handsome Collection has a lot of content in it. In truth, the bundle contains every single bit of DLC for Borderlands 2 and the following post launch content for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel up to March 24, 2015.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
- Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack (playable class)
- Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack: The Holodome Onslaught (level cap increase & challenge arena)
- Shock Drop Slaughter Pit (challenge arena)
- Upcoming Season Pass Content (playable class)
- Upcoming Season Pass Content (campaign add-on)
If The Handsome Collection did not tempt you enough, there are multiple other reasons that Gearbox is throwing in to entice you. Cross save functionality is included for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita versions of Borderlands 2 and the PlayStation 3 version of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The same functionality is also included for gamers upgrading from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One. This includes your characters and Badass Rank.
The extra horsepower provided by the PS4 and Xbox One is also allowing for a new 4 player local co-op mode for both games allowing for single television play.
Gamers who have a good deal of disposable income will also be able to fork over $399 for one of 5,000 Claptrap-in-a-Box editions. This rather insane package contains a remote controlled CL4P-TP robot which can be controlled by an iOS or Android device for the following functions:
- Gyro technology to balance on one wheel allowing it to move wherever you want him to!
- Voice samples of some of Claptrap’s most iconic lines that can be activated on command!
- A real working camera in his “eye” that is streamed to your mobile phone, so you can see where Claptrap is headed!
Other bonus swag including in the Claptrap-in-a-box edition for The Handsome Collection includes lithographs, a collectible steel case.
