Sony Coming Out With Blazing Fast ‘XQD’ Flash Cards In February

With news of CES right around the corner, more and more manufacturers are announcing new products as well as what they will be debuting at the World’s largest technology conference. Sony announced that they will be coming out with a new line of flash/memory cards under the new standard called XQD.

They will be available first in Japan as with lots of new tech, and will be available shortly thereafter in the US and other parts of the World.

What makes these flash cards different from the current ones on the market is that this new standard allows read/write speeds of 125MB per second, many times over the products already in the marketplace.

People not only want more storage, they want faster speeds and with this new line from Sony, that’s exactly what they’ll get. The company will be launching a 16GB and 32GB version next month which also means readers that can hook up via USB 3.0 or a PCI slot.

Yes, you’ll need a proprietary reader in order to use the XQD flash cards. Fortunately, they’ve managed to keep the prices of the reader down which will run you around $52 in US currency. The cards on the other hand? Being that they’re using a new standard, be prepared to pay more.

The 16GB version will run you $260 while the 32GB version will run you around $430. Of course, being that they launch next month (no specific date set), prices could change until then and with them soon coming to the US, that will definitely be the case.
