Conor McGregor On Dennis Siver: ‘His Career Is Done’

At UFC Fight Night 59, “The Notorious” Conor McGregor will battle Dennis Siver for the opportunity to face the division’s longtime featherweight champion, Jose Aldo.

The Ireland native sports a 16-2 record with 14 of those wins coming by way of knockout. He is undefeated in the UFC and is arguably the brand’s hottest commodity at the moment.

In fact, UFC president Dana White believes in McGregor’s star power to the point that he entertained the idea of the rising star possibly fighting in a stadium in his home country of Ireland for the title as well. In an interview with Fox Sports, White commented on the enormity of a matchup between McGregor and Aldo.

He stated, “[It] will be the biggest fight that division’s ever had, and it will be the biggest payday Aldo’s ever had.”

However, despite entering the Octagon as a 10-1 underdog, Siver (22-9) dismissed any talk of a McGregor/Aldo matchup. According to Bloody Elbow, the German-born fighter was unimpressed with McGregor’s record and the UFC’s apparent push of the 27-year-old, citing it as “premature.”

“You can’t hype a guy like this after only four fights in the UFC. He looked good in his last bout, but the fight lasted only two minutes. That win is nothing to me. That doesn’t impress me at all…

“… I think that’s a bit premature (McGregor’s title shot). There are lots of other guys out there that deserve it more… I will bring him down to earth with a bang and take away his chance of a title shot. To smash his face in beats any title shot in the world for me.”

However, despite Siver’s six-year tenure with the UFC, during Embedded, a company promo for UFC Fight Night 59, McGregor wasn’t at a loss of words in describing his feelings towards his opponent this Sunday in Boston.

“He’s a veteran of the game, but he deserves no credit. So, I don’t give a f— about Dennis Siver one bit. He doesn’t deserve the opportunity. He got lucky. That luck is about to run dry now. It’s over for him now. This is it. His career is done.”

In a recent poll conducted by Bleacher Report, over 81 percent of fans desired to witness the realization of a McGregor/Aldo matchup immediately. A bout between the athletes would generate a tremendous amount of revenue for the UFC and for the fighters in question as well.

Given his matchup against Siver this Sunday, McGregor made it clear that he’s not looking past his opponent at UFC Fight Night 59. “He’s looking through him.”
