The Sims 4 Makes Good On Promise To Mac Users

Fans of The Sims franchise who are also Mac users can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Maxis has announced that the Mac version of the latest installment of the franchise, The Sims 4, is almost complete. In fact, the game is so close to completion that Maxis set a release date: February 2015.

The announcement is no doubt a relief to fans of The Sims franchise, who were disappointed to learn just a few months before the game’s September 2014 release that a Mac compatible version wouldn’t be available at product launch, and producers couldn’t, or wouldn’t, say when one would be available.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, some users found a workaround that allowed them to play The Sims 4 on a hard drive partition. If you bought a PC copy of The Sims 4 to take advantage of the work around, fret not. Kotaku reports that the users who own either version of The Sims 4 will receive a digital copy compatible with the other computer type free of charge. The Mac version of The Sims 4 will only be available as a digital download.

Players of the PC version of The Sims 4 will be able to sync their current games to the new Mac version. Meaning users can switch from PC to Mac and back without losing legacy families.

There has been no official word yet from Maxis on whether The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat will be Mac compatible, but given the proximity to the Mac release of The Sims 4, it seems likely.

While Maxis declined to specify which date in February will see the release of the long awaited Mac version of The Sims 4, it is worth noting that an equally vague release date was given for the game pack The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat. Tech savvy players discovered codes for The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat embedded into a December patch for The Sims 4 base game. An official announcement followed only days later, and the full game pack was released during the second week of January. Which means Mac users could have a copy of The Sims 4 of their very own as soon as Valentines Day.

The Mac compatible version of The Sims 4 will have an MSRP of $59.99, the same price as the PC version.
