‘Assassin’s Creed Unity’ Nominated For Award By The Writers Guild Of America

Ubisoft’s most recent installment of their popular action series may have had its share of gameplay stability issues when it first released on next-gen platforms late last year, but technical issues haven’t prevented Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s story from being recognized by the Writers Guild of America. Joined by a short list of other titles, the WGA has nominated Assassin’s Creed Unity for an award in outstanding achievement in writing for video games in 2014.

Rather than simply nomination a single individual, the Writers Guild of America is giving the credit to the entire Assassin’s Creed Unity writing team by nominating multiple Ubisoft writers responsible for the story and script of the series’ most recent release. The full WGA nomination recognizes the following team from Assassin’s Creed Unity.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Story by Alexandre Amancio, Sylvain Bernard, Travis Stout; Scriptwriting Alexandre Amancio, Travis Stout, Russell Lees, Darby McDevitt, Ceri Young; Additional Scriptwriting Jeffrey Yohalem; Ubisoft”

The Ubisoft franchise is now very familiar with the video game writing award, since this is the third year in a row that an Assassin’s Creed game has been nominated. In fact, two different entries from the series are in the running for the honor this year alone. Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry, a DLC add-on for the pirate-themed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, has also been nominated for the award alongside Unity.

Also up for this year’s outstanding achievement in video game writing from the WGA is Alien: Isolation and The Last of Us: Left Behind. The nominees were selected from title released between December 1, 2013 and November 30, 2014. As VG/247 points out, the writers must also be members of the Writers Guild of America and have applied for the award, which significantly narrows down the potential candidates. The winner will be announced during a ceremony on February 14.

In addition to videogames, the Writers Guild Awards honors outstanding writing in a wide selection of media. The awards also have categories to recognize writing in television, film, animation, and more.

Assassin’s Creed Unity is out now for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. The franchise’s newest installment is the first title in the series to not release on last-gen consoles. Fans of cooperative gameplay also enjoyed another franchise first, with the new addition of four-player co-op missions to Assassin’s Creed Unity. While the multiplayer mode released with issues, the Inquisitr reported that many online problems with the game improved after a recent patch.
