Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Refuses To Give Up General Manager Role

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Tuesday that he will not step down as the teams general manager despite the teams complete collapse since the days of their 1990s dynasty.

Speaking to KRLD-FM Jones revealed:

“The facts are that I’ve spent 22 years doing this exactly the same way.”

Jerry Jones then added:

“I’ve made a lot of changes from year to year as time goes along, but frankly, I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don’t have expectations lived up to, the one that should get the most heat is the one that ultimately makes the decisions, period, with the Dallas Cowboys. And that’s me.”

Talk of hiring a new GM came up after the Indianapolis Colts fired Bill Polian and the Chicago Bears let go of Jerry Angelo. The former molded a Super Bowl team but ultimately the loss of Peyton Manning proved that the team was build on a single man’s shoulders.

Jerry Jones says that adding a GM to a team that has a full-time hands on owner would just lead to the type of turnover the NFL typically sees at the coaching level.

In the last 15 seasons under the ownership of Jerry Jones the Dallas Cowboys have torn through six different coaches, one general manager and just a single playoff win.

Do you think Jerry Jones needs to step down as the Dallas Cowboys general manager in order for the team to move forward with much needed shakeups?
