Louis Tomlinson Proves One Direction Are More Popular Than Barack Obama

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has proven that he and his band mates are more popular than U.S. President Barack Obama, well on social media anyway. The Telegraph is reporting that Tomlinson’s tweet about his pal Harry Styles has become the second most popular tweet ever on the social media site twitter.

Tomlinson’s tweet hails from 2011, and in it he professed his love for band mate Harry Styles. Tomlinson’s tweet now has over 783,000 re-tweets, and has surpassed Obama’s famous “Four more years” tweet as the second-most popular of all time.

Tomlinson’s tweet is still some way behind the most popular of all time though. According to Yahoo! Celebrity that honor is held by Ellen DeGeneres whose “selfie” at the 2014 Oscars ceremony is way ahead with almost 3.4 million re-tweets.

Louis Tomlinsons tweet now has some 26,000 more re-tweets than the one from Barack Obama’s official account posted after he won a second term in office in 2012. The message shows a photograph of Mr. Obama hugging his wife Michelle.

The twitter milestone was spotted by Buzzfeed writer Matt Bellassai who predictably Tomlinson feat on twitter.

One Directions fans have made Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Niall Horan social media superstars. Every time one of the boys makes even the most mundane of tweets it is re-tweeted and Favorited thousands of times. A tweet by Harry Styles on New Years Day that simply said “Burger” has been re-tweeted over 186,000 times.

Louis Tomlinson has an incredible 18.4 million followers on Twitter but even that lags some way behind Harry who has over 23.3 million followers. Singer Katy Perry is the most followed celebrity on the social media site with almost 64 million followers.

According to Unreality TV Louis is missing his One Direction mates and can’t wait to get back on tour with the band. One Direction’s last tour was seen by over 3.4 million people and made the band over $250 million. Their 80 show “On The Road Again” tour kicks off at the Allianz Stadium, Sydney, Australia, in February and it sounds like that day can’t come soon enough for Louis who took to twitter to tell his fans that he can’t wait to get back on the road. Rumors are also emerging on Metro that the One Direction are already laying down tracks for a fifth album. This contradicts hints Louis made last year that “Four” could be their last album.

According to ITV News Louis is enjoying some leisure time before the tour as he was spotted in Bristol, England last night. His favorite team, Doncaster Rovers, played a soccer game against Bristol City, sadly for Louis his presence failed to inspire his team who lost the game 2-0.
