69-Year-Old Man Escapes Kidnap Plot Of 17-Year-Old Girlfriend, ‘This Was Going To Be My Last Car Ride’

A 69-year-old man says he was kidnapped by his 17-year-old girlfriend. The man claims he was robbed and placed in the trunk of his own car.

My Fox Detroit reports Police say the Southgate, Michigan, man was the victim of a failed kidnapping. The 69-year-old man was set up by his 17-year-old girlfriend, along with two men in their 30s. The incident took place on January 2. when the man met up with his girlfriend. What he didn’t know at the time was that his 17-year-old girlfriend had other plans in mind.

The man’s girlfriend, Destiny Marie Gerwatowski, alongside suspects Alphonso Lamarr Straughter Jr., 31, and Tajick Lewis Jackson, 36, first began by robbing the man. The unidentified man says that the suspects got upset by his billfold.

“After they got my wallet, they were ticked off because there was only $90 in my wallet.”

The man says after the suspects found he didn’t have any additional money, they threw him in the trunk of his own car. At this point, the man says he thought they would kill him.

“I thought this was going to be my last car ride. My own personal car was going to be my hearse.”

Once inside the trunk of the vehicle, the man said the trio started backing him down the driveway. He said he was locked in the trunk with no way out. Fortunately, he was able to find a lighter inside the trunk and use it to provide some light. With the light from the lighter, the man was able to pull the emergency trunk release.

“God finally answered a prayer about the lighter. I flicked it on and found the inside trunk release and when I felt the car creep forward I bailed out onto the right lane on Dix Toledo.”

Once the man was free from the confines of the trunk, he ran to a nearby liquor store where he called 911.

The man explained the situation and law enforcement workers were able to identify all the suspects within two days time. The Southgate Police Chief, Thomas Coombs, says that all those involved have been arrested and that Gerwatowski will be tried as an adult even though she is only 17-years-old.

Now that the man is safe he says he has something to say to his former girlfriend.

“How do you like me now. Because I’m not supposed to be here, and you are looking at life in prison.”

WJBK reports that the trio is currently being held on charges of carjacking, armed robbery, home invasion and unlawful imprisonment. The 69-year-old man is not facing any charges as the nature of the relationship is not known and the age of consent in Michigan is 16-years-old.
