Selena Gomez To Star With Paul Rudd In ‘The Revised Fundamentals Of Caregiving’

Selena Gomez has joined the cast of the upcoming movie The Revised Fundamentals Of Caregiving.

According to Deadline, the 22-year-old actress-singer will join Ant-Man and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’ Paul Rudd in the film, which will be directed by Emmy winner Rob Burnett.

Nutshelled, the indie-drama will see Rudd play the part of Ben, a caregiver who looks after an angsty teen named Trevor who suffers from advance Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Selena will play the role of Dot, a “sassy,” upfront 17-year-old who hitches a ride with the pair during a road trip, and “whose forwardness and lack of embarrassment about Trevor’s condition causes him to develop a crush on her,” as Deadline put it.

Burnett adapted the script from Jonathan Evison’s 2013 novel of the same name. Donna Gigliotti and James Spies are the dual producers for Levantine Film and Worldwide Pants production. Shooting on The Revised Fundamentals Of Caregiving kicks off on January 22 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Gomez foreshadowed her new movie role team-up when she posed playfully with Rudd and Jennifer Aniston’s fiancé, Justin Theroux, at a Golden Globes afterparty on Sunday.

The starlet shared a photo of the trio to her Instagram account, captioning it, “The guys were, happy.”

The Latina will also revisit her voice role in Sony’s animated sequel Hotel Transylvania 2 alongside co-stars Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg.

As the Inquisitr reported earlier today, it was revealed on Monday that Selena would be announced in a new movie later this week, but evidently the reveal was pushed forward.

Selena has been stretching her wings since her early days in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place. In 2013, she went on to more adult territory in Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, with fellow Disney alum Vanessa Hudgens. This continued in the sex comedy Behaving Badly last fall.

While her role in 2013’s Getaway with Ethan Hawke wasn’t well received, critics generally agreed it was the material that was poor. Selena did well with her small role in acclaimed actor and first time director William H. Macy’s Rudderless last year, and is clearly keen to take on more substantial roles.

Indeed, for many, it is the pop princess’ raw performance in her “The Heart Wants What It Wants” single and music video with its searing opening scene describing heartbreak which showed she has the emotional ability to dig deep.

Released last November, the single was inspired by Selena’s on-off, four-year relationship with Justin Bieber.

The multi-talented Texan is currently recording new music for her upcoming album with a roll call of collaborators. These include rumored new boyfriend, Zedd, an EDM producer, songwriter, and successful DJ.

The pair are both signed to Interscope Records, and were most recently spotted attending a round of Golden Globes’ afterparties on Sunday in Beverly Hills, California.

Selena is managed by WME, Brillstein Partners, and Ziffren Brittenham, and with her just announced new movie role in The Revised Fundamentals Of Caregiving, she’s knocking 2015 out of the park.
