Selena Gomez Tells Cody Simpson She Loves Him and Calls Him ‘Bubba’

Is Selena Gomez going after Cody Simpson now that her relationship with Justin Bieber seems to be truly over? Early Sunday morning, Selena told Cody, who just turned 18, that she loves him. She even called him her “bubba.” She posted the following message to her Instagram account.

“Happiest of birthdays to bubba and such an incredible person. Love you inside out @codysimpson -here’s to more.”

Accompanying the message is a photo of Selena and Cody together. The two wear matching hats and look as stylish as worldwide pop stars can be.

However, instead of having any romantic feelings for Cody, it’s more likely that Selena is just very good friends with him through her friendship with model Gigi Hadid, whom he’s currently dating. Thursday night, Gigi accompanied Cody to an awards ceremony in China, where he picked up an International Male Artist award. The next day, Gigi attended a pre-Golden Globes event with Cody’s little sister, Alli Simpson, back in Los Angeles.

Cody may be celebrating his 18th birthday with Gigi, his family, Selena, and many others. On Friday, he tweeted his excitement over his big birthday weekend.

“Psyched to be back in Cali. Big 18th birthday weekend coming up out in the Bu.. Let’s go.”

Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid are such good friends that they rang in the new year together in Dubai. Kendall Jenner and Cody Simpson also joined in on the fun.

Interestingly enough, Cody Simpson is also friends with Selena’s ex, Justin Bieber. Cody and Justin even collaborated together for a song, “Home To Mama,” which was released in November 2014. Perhaps Selena will, or has already, run into Justin during Cody’s big birthday celebration?

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest in early November, Gomez confirmed that her song, “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” is about her tumultuous past with Bieber. She spoke out about people judging her for being with him.

“I was trying to figure out what I’m doing, and that was the first time I was constantly being kicked down for doing that… And people just thought, ‘All right, this is what we think.’ And yeah, I made some decisions that weren’t great as well, and so did he, and that’s why we went through all that to only make us better.”

Selena Gomez added that she’ll always have a strong connection to Justin Bieber.

“I support him. I think I always will. I’m upset when he’s upset, I’m happy when he’s happy. I don’t want anything bad ever to happen to him. It hurts me. That’s all.”
