Jessica Bonnett Acker was arrested for having sex with a student under the age of 19. According to Daily Mail, Jessica Acker began having an illicit sexual relationship with a student who was just 18 years of age. Acker taught at Bryant High School in Cottondale, Alabama. In the state of Alabama, a teacher is disallowed to have sex with a student under the age of 19.
It has not been stated publicly how the relationship was started. But police say that they believe the two began having sex several months after newlywed Jessica Acker married her husband last year.
According to WTVY, the school became aware of the relationship and alerted police. During the police investigation, both Jessica Bonnett Acker and the 18-year-old boy were interviewed. After the interview, it was deduced that the allegations against Acker were indeed true, and she was taken into custody and charged with “being a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student.” The disgraced former teacher was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $5,000 bond. Jessica Acker, of Northport, has officially resigned from her teaching position.
The School district released the following statement regarding the allegations facing former teacher Jessica Acker.
“The Tuscaloosa City School System learned of these allegations Tuesday, January 6, at which time an investigation was immediately conducted by both the Tuscaloosa Police Department and Tuscaloosa City School officials. The following day, January 7, the Board of Education accepted the resignation of the teacher involved.”
Jessica Bonnett Acker’s arrest comes on the heels of a slew of other female teacher/male student sex cases. Just this week, the Inquisitr reported on the case of Mackenzie Land Matthews, a 43-year-old high school guidance counselor who had a sexual affair with one of her male students. The case of Iris Gibney has also been in the news. Gibney was arrested after police found her having sex with a 17-year-old classmate at her daughter’s school.
