Toddler Puts Gun In Mouth, Told To Shoot: Mom Films Disturbing Footage [Video]

A 1-year-old toddler put a gun in her mouth and was told to shoot while mom filmed a video on her cell phone. The mother’s boyfriend can be heard in the background shouting, “POW” and the girl repeats “POW” back to him.

The girl’s mother, Toni Wilson, 22, and her boyfriend, Michael Barnes, 19, are in jail and charged with child neglect, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and allowing a child to possess a firearm. The handgun that the little girl was playing with was a.40 caliber. Two videos were recorded of the girl rubbing the gun against her face then placing the muzzle of it inside her mouth.

News Channel 14 reports that the incident happened in Evansville, Indiana. Police arrested Barnes after he attempted to sell a handgun to an undercover officer. The two videos of the toddler putting the gun in her mouth were on Barnes’ phone, which detectives discovered.

Barnes is heard yellowing “POW” several times and encouraging the 1-year-old to pull the trigger. Police say Barnes didn’t try stopping the child.

When Wilson was questioned by police about her daughter playing with the dangerous weapon, she told them it was a pellet gun.

Police are calling this “mind-numbing” and something they’ve never seen before. Sgt. Jason Cullum of the Evansville Police Department says this is troublesome for society as a whole.

“When we try to do all the things we do to encourage these kids to be good members of our community, and you see somebody that’s working that hard against it, it just makes you wonder how many other children may be living in this type of situation and what’s the outcome is going to be for them, and what’s the outcome is going to be for our community if these things do go on.”

Wilson’s 1-year-old girl and two 1-month-old twins are in emergency care. Barnes is the father of the twins, but not the 1-year-old.

Tristate News reports that Michael Barnes is also being charged with resisting law enforcement with a weapon, carrying a handgun without a permit, and carrying a handgun without a permit within 500 feet of a school. A warrant was out for his arrest for armed robbery, but was caught at an elementary school trying to sell a handgun and was met by an undercover cop instead. He attempted to run, but was apprehended by a K-9 unit.

The 1-year-old toddler putting a gun in her mouth could have resulted in tragic consequences, but luckily she didn’t end up being a statistic.
