Azealia Banks Goes After More Beef — Targeting Kendrick Lamar This Time

Azealia Banks just can’t get enough drama, and as usual, her latest beef is with someone far more well known than she is in the hip hop industry. The Hollywood Gossip reports that the “212” hit-maker had some scathing words for Kendrick Lamar, after he made some pretty controversial comments about black culture and self respect.

The comments were printed in the new issue of Billboard Magazine, which also features Lamar on the cover. The Compton, California, rapper offered his two cents on the shooting of Michael Brown and the resulting protests in Ferguson, Missouri. Mediaite shared his quote (along with a response by Banks).

“I wish somebody would look in our neighborhood knowing that it’s already a situation, mentally, where it’s f**ked up. What happened to [Michael Brown] should’ve never happened. Never. But when we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don’t start with just a rally, don’t start from looting — it starts from within. We’re in the last days, man — I truly in my heart believe that. It’s written. I could go on with Biblical situations and things my grandma told me. But it’s about being at peace with myself and making good with the people around me.”

Azealia Banks was floored by his comments, which resulted in a fiery tirade of angry comments toward the rapper on Twitter (it being Banks’ platform of choice when it comes to social media and starting rapper beefs).

Banks is becoming known by performers in the music industry and by fans as someone who starts a lot of drama with a lot of other stars — something that numerous people have spoken out against as a poor way to grow a following. Still, Hollywood Gossip believes that her latest attack on Kendrick Lamar stems from his defense of Iggy Azalea — which, as everyone should be aware by now, is Azealia’s arch nemesis. Anyone who dares defend the blonde rap star against Azealia’s constant attacks gets swooped into the drama and becomes a target themselves.

Even though Azealia Banks is a rapper of sorts, she has apparently remodeled herself into a talking head against white privilege and black oppression. These two endeavors are noble, but Azealia herself has been called out for being a bigot more than once. She’s referred to Iggy Azalia as “Satan in the form of mayonnaise” and used the f-word to insult openly homosexual blogger Perez Hilton.
