Andrew Dossi: Wounded NYPD Cop Reportedly Mad About Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Hospital Visit

Andrew Dossi, one of the two NYPD officers shot in the Bronx on Jan 5., recently received a hospital visit from Mayor Bill de Blasio. Although he may have desired to turn his back on de Blasio, the bullet lodged in his torso would have prohibited him from doing so. However, his father Joe Dossi had no reservations about sharing his son’s true feelings about Mayor de Blasio following his visit to the St. Barnabas Hospital where his son is hospitalized.

For those who missed it, the Iraq veteran and his partner Aliro Pellarano were both shot when they were involved in an altercation with a robber at a Bronx grocery store on the evening of Monday, Jan. 5. Luckily, both men are in stable condition and are expected to recover. So, Mayor de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton reportedly paid a visit to the officers.

According to the New York Daily News, Dossi, 66, recently weighed in with his son’s perspective on the rift between de Blasio, city officials and the New York Police Department in wake of the highly-publicized, controversial death of Eric Garner. Although Bratton didn’t seem to bother Dossi, de Blasio’s presence wasn’t much consolation. Needless to say, the 30-year-0ld officer is like many other cops – extremely frustrated and displeased.

“[Andrew] deals with some crappy people every day, and getting no support (from the mayor), come on,” Dossi’s father said. “These are the guys in the trenches dealing with anything and everything. Bratton seemed like a real legitimate guy,” he added. “He came in three times and then the second time he brought the mayor in with him. The mayor seemed passive, like he was just listening to what Bratton was saying and what I was saying.”

Dossi went on to share his son’s sentiments of the mayor’s presence.

“He didn’t really want him to be there. He was sort of upset.” Dossi continued, “Like, ‘I’m doing all this work. I’m jeopardizing my life and everything. Give me your support.'”

However, de Blasio did praise both Dossi and Pellerano for their courageous acts despite the rift with NYPD. During the hospital visit on Tuesday, de Blasio released an official statement in regards to the two 46th Precinct officers, reports the New York Post.

“Thank God these officers are doing well,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Tuesday morning. “These officers did something that was extraordinarily brave. They did it as part of their commitment. These officers had just come off their shift and upon hearing this call, went back out in search of these criminals. The work they do is so profoundly important in this instance where they went above and beyond the call to protect their fellow New Yorkers.”

Although the rift between Mayor de Blasio and the NYPD began with Garner’s death, the tension escalated with the fatal shooting of officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos. Many officers are highly displeased with de Blasio due to his alleged lack of support. It has also been reported that many officers insist de Blasio has taken the side of communities and protesters who believe officers insist on using excessive force.
