Demi Lovato is hoping to spend a significant part of the new year keeping herself in tip-top shape, both emotionally and physically.
For those who don’t keep up with the pop star’s life, Lovato has battled eating disorders and self-esteem issues for years. While some celebrities are content to hide these problems away from prying eyes, Demi doesn’t shy away from discussing these issues with her fans. In fact, Lovato hopes people will find strength in her struggles.
According to People, Demi Lovato intends to spend a significant portion of 2015 on herself. Although she still plans to release a new album at some point this year, she isn’t going to let her career derail her health.
Lovato shared a picture of herself on Instagram, a photo that featured a caption detailing how she plans to better herself throughout the new year.
“I was beautiful then, and I’m beautiful now. 2014 I decided to focus on bettering myself by making changes in my life with health, balance, endurance and consistency. You don’t have to wait till the beginning of a new year to make resolutions for yourself. It’s all about loving and taking care of the only body you will ever have… Cherish it, love it, embrace it.. Because when you do.. It begins to show. Goodbye 2014.. Who’s excited for what we can accomplish in 2015?!! Let’s do this!!!!”

Demi Lovato recently admitted to Fitness magazine that she almost went back to rehab to deal with an eating disorder. Instead, the singer said she and boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama worked through this problem together.
“It’s been difficult. I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer. I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. Wilmer [Valderrama, her boyfriend] noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief. I was done being afraid of food and so tired of overeating and not knowing why I did it. Now I’m on a structured meal plan. I eat four small meals and two snacks a day. It’s teaching me portion control.”
Lovato also had some advice for women struggling to lose weight.
“We all have problem areas. I’m always going to have thick thighs. I can’t change that, and obsessing over it will only make me miserable. Learning to be grateful for our bodies and taking care of them are the best ways for us to empower ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually.”
