Pit Bull Attack: 10-Year-Old Faces Years Of Reconstructive Surgery

A 10-year-old boy from Oklahoma is facing years of reconstructive surgery after surviving an attack by two pit bulls that escaped a neighbor’s yard before lashing out at him.

The incident took place on December 27, according to the Daily Mail, as Bernie Molnar played with a scooter he’d been gifted for Christmas. The two pit bulls broke through a hole in a neighbor’s fence and attacked the boy, who suffered a broken arm and nose. Part of Molnar’s ear was ripped off in the attack as well.

Christina Dettling, Molnar’s mother, emerged from the house at the sound of her son’s screams to find him covered in blood, as a neighbor named Patrick kept the put bulls at bay with the scooter. Molnar was airlifted to a hospital in Oklahoma City, and though he was released last Monday, the boy will need to return to have surgical staples removed. The 10-year-old also faces multiple surgical procedures to repair the damage his face suffered in the attack.

The incident was not the first act of violence for at least one of the pit bulls. A police report indicates that one of the dogs was deemed dangerous by the city, the result of a prior incident in which it attacked another man. Jordan Soucek, the pit bulls’ owner, has been charged with violating a city ordinance pertaining to dangerous dogs.

“The owner had to put insurance on that dog. You know you have a dog that is that dangerous, so why would you have a dog like that in a neighborhood full of kids?” Dettling asked.

Molnar recalled that he froze as he saw the pit bulls approaching him, according to KOCO. The boy said he had trouble feeling his injuries as he was in shock following the attack.

“The first thing she did was latch onto my arm and shake and shake and shake,” he recalled.

Dettling credits Patrick with saving her son’s life, noting his role in defending the boy.

“If it had not been for Patrick, I would not have my kid right now. These dogs were aiming to kill my boy and this is not the first time they have been out.”

On Christmas day, a man from Indiana was killed by his pit bull in an attack that authorities are still trying to piece together. As the Inquisitr previously noted, it is unclear what motivated the pit bull to attack his owner.

Following the attack on Molnar, both of the pit bulls were put down.
