Tyler the Creator Arrested for “Beating Up” Some Sound Equipment

Up-and-coming rapper Tyler the Creator was arrested Thursday night (Dec 22) in Los Angeles after authorities say he got “rowdy” and destroyed some sound equipment inside the world famous Roxy Theater on Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood.

Following the incident, Tyler, who took home the “Best New Artist” at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, was booked for investigation of felony vandalism before he was released on $20,000 bail, according to the LA Times.

The West Hollywood Sheriff’s department told TMZ that as the 20-year-old rapper (whose real name is Tyler Okonma) was being led to a squad car, the crowd leaving the Roxy became angry and additional deputies were called in to disperse the crowd.

Authorities say no one was hurt.

Following the ordeal, Tyler took to Twitter and refuted claims that he was arrested:

“Whoa, Its Stories On Me Being In Jail? The F*ck? I Wasnt In No Jail Or Arrested Or Nothing,” he posted.
