Kanye West Fans Have No Clue Who Paul McCartney Is

Diana Price

Kanye West just released a new ballad, "Only One," featuring Sir Paul McCartney, and his fans are already singing West's praises for the vocal and writing collaboration. Unfortunately, it's not for the reasons you might think. Instead of being impressed Kanye worked with a music legend, they applauded him for helping this "unknown" named Paul McCartney. Or is that Paul McCarthy?

For the majority of you about to read this, you are about to feel really old. And for the handful of you who have no idea who Paul McCartney is, please slap yourself because he's one of The Beatles. You know, "I Want to Hold Your Hand," "Help," "Helter Skelter," "Let it Be"... is any of this ringing a bell?

So Kanye West fans have been setting Twitter on fire with praise for West for giving such an "unknown" like Paul McCartney a shot at working with the musical half of Kimye. CurvedDaily now claims he was making a joke, but you decide.

"who tf is paul mccartney???!??! this is why i love kanye for shining light on unknown artists"
"I don't know who Paul McCartney is, but Kanye is going to give this man a career w/ this new song!!"
"Oh sh*t sorry! I didn't know Paul McCartney or whatever was apart of The Beatles! Who knew people remembered bands from the 40's!"
"Who is this Paul McCartney???? He boutta blow up thanks to Kanye!!!"

On a more serious note, the song was released to iTunes on New Year's Eve right before midnight on the east coast, and you can stream it on Kanye West's website. This is no "Ebony and Ivory" pop fluff as when McCartney worked with Michael Jackson, but a very emotional and personal song for West. Kanye claims the words to the song came to him subconsciously from his mother, who passed away in 2007.

West says he channeled his mother's spirit and her pride in him despite his mistakes. But more importantly, the main message of the song is to his daughter North, with wife Kim Kardashian. The song ends with West singing, "Tell Nori about me."

"Only One" also happens to be the Swahili translation of "Kanye." The press release of the song hinted that we can expect more songs from the Kanye and Paul recording sessions. Let's hope next time the pair release a single, Kanye West fans know who their idol is working with.
