‘Gotham’ Return Spoilers: Jim Gordon At Arkham And More Alfred And Edward Nygma

Winter hiatus is almost over for Gotham, and when it returns, Jim Gordon has a new job – and it’s one where he’ll be meeting a new character, Dr. Leslie Thompkins, played by Morena Baccarin (Homeland, Firefly). Will sparks fly?

Entertainment Weekly has spoken to Baccarin about what to expect between these two characters on Gotham, and she called Jim “a very complicated man.” The two will be working together, and it sounds like he meets her at the right time when he needs someone like her in his life, with the transfer to Arkham. The actress shared that the two spend time together “both inside and outside of Arkham.”

“She gets out [of Arkham] which is really fun and her and Jim kind of pair up and have this really great relationship. I think it’s important. Arkham is a really kind of iconic and dark and crazy world but I don’t think you want to spend too much time in there. Jim finds an ally in her, which I think is important for him at his point. He’s beaten down by the system and he’s been fighting this one-man operation to make Gotham not as corrupt.”

Furthermore, Baccarin previewed that Leslie does “butt heads with someone at the GCPD,” but “it’s not a big deal.” It’s just part of who her character is.

“She’s just one of those people who doesn’t take sh*t. She doesn’t really care what anybody thinks. She’s a good person. She doesn’t do anything terrible, but she’s not going to cater to stupid people, so it can be disarming but it can also be infuriating to certain people.”

While some things are the same from the comics when it comes to her character, Baccarin explained that they are doing something a bit different, but it is possible that that could change.

“I’m a physician. I’m working at Arkham, but we’re not sticking too close to the original mythology. We are having her team up with Jim Gordon instead of the Wayne family and Bruce. Eventually, who knows – it could go in that direction, but it hasn’t yet.”

EW has also shared a sneak peek from when Gotham returns showing Jim at Arkham meeting Leslie and watching her work. She calls him “the famous Detective Jim Gordon,” changing it to “notorious” when he debates the use of “famous.” She tells him that what he’s doing is “admirable” because he’s “not quitting,” but the inmate in the infirmary bed interrupts to tell them to “get a room” because he’s trying to sleep.

Also coming up when Gotham returns, executive producer Bruno Heller has told The Wall Street Journal that there will be more from Alfred Pennyworth, in part because of Sean Pertwee’s performance.

“Sean brought so much energy, humor, wit and pathos to it that it allows us to build that character out and create more drama around him, his own drama,” he explained.

As for fans wanting to see more of Edward Nygma, that’s coming as well as Heller teased that viewers will “see a whole other side of him.”
