Murder Suicide Rampage In Edmonton, Canada, Results In Nine Deaths

A deadly rampage spread across Edmonton, Canada by a suicidal man has resulted in the murder-deaths of nine people, including the suicidal man, reports the Edmonton Journal.

Three different crime scenes are being reported in what appears to be a murder-suicide, the gunman allegedly killing eight before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide, according to police.

The eight Edmonton murder victims included four adult females, two adult males and two children, a boy and a girl. The identities of the murder victims haven’t been released.

The first murder victim was found Monday night in Edmonton when police responded to a “weapon’s complaint” at a residence just before 7 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased woman in her thirties. Three children that reportedly live in the home were either not seen, or spared, and are in a safe place, according to police.

Following the discovery of this first murder victim, Edmonton police responded to a “suspicious circumstances” call at a different Edmonton residence around 8:30 p.m. The residents there said they were concerned about a man who was depressed and might possibly commit suicide. Officers couldn’t find the suicidal man, however, and with nothing else suspicious at the home, they left, according to police.

Unfortunately, police later received “additional information” and returned to the North Edmonton home at approximately 12:23 a.m., at which point they found a grisly murder scene that included three female adults, two male adults, the boy, and the girl.

The suicidal man believed to be responsible for the murders was found dead via suicide in a Vietnamese restaurant in suburban Fort Saskatchewan on Tuesday morning.

The murder-suicide suspect had apparently blown out the windows of the restaurant, and the front doors were also reportedly broken down.

According to AOL News, a witness said that police surrounded the Vietnamese restaurant around 6:30 a.m. and called for the murder-suicide suspect to “Come out with your hands up.”

Police then rammed through the front of the restaurant with a SWAT vehicle at which point the murder-suicide suspect was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Edmonton Police Chief, Rod Knecht expressed sadness and condolences at the murder on behalf of the Edmonton community while speaking to the media Tuesday afternoon.

“It is a tragic day for Edmonton. Our thoughts go out to the community as we all come to terms with the senseless mass murder of eight people.”

A neighbor, Ron Bailey, who lives near the Edmonton home where the seven murder victims were found, said it was the home to a family of five.

“It’s a tragedy and I hope the children weren’t involved,” said Bailey.

Another neighbor reportedly witnessed the husband and wife at 3 a.m. in a shouting match on the front lawn over the summer.

“This is going to get really nasty, really fast,” the neighbor recalled thinking.

The couple had reportedly been “facing financial pressures.”

This murder-suicide is the worst mass killing not just in Edmonton, but in Alberta, Canada, since at least 1879, reports CBS News.
