Kayla Edwards Arrested As Chilling Details Emerge: Infant Twins Tortured, One Dead

Kayla Edwards, 25, has been arrested after the death of her 10-week-old infant son on Saturday, and police have unearthed chilling details that allege Edwards not only murdered the baby, but tortured him as well, along with his twin sister. Edwards’ husband Brandon, 28, has also been arrested, and both face aggravated assault charges. Kayla Edwards faces an additional charge of deliberate homicide of a minor.

Police in Billings, Montana, where the couple lives, arrested both parents on Christmas day, when their infant son was rushed to the hospital after he stopped breathing. Kayla Edwards called 911 and reportedly told officers that the baby just began to turn blue and gasp for air as she was changing his diaper, denying that anything had happened to the child, either purposely or accidentally.

Police were immediately suspicious and took the couple into custody. According to one officer, the baby boy had already turned blue by the time the officers responded to the call at the Edwards’ home, and investigators found suspicious bruises on the body of his twin sister.

The baby boy had suffered from severe brain bleeding, and was transported to Denver Children’s Hospital, where he was placed on life support. The pediatric neurosurgeons determined that his brain injuries were too severe to be operated on, and that his brain was no longer functioning. On Saturday, he was taken off of life support and died at the hospital.

During initial interviews, Brandon Edwards denied seeing anything that may have happened to his deceased infant son. But, according to KTVQ, Edwards finally broke down sobbing, admitting to police that he had heard his wife Kayla yell “Shut up!” at the infant, followed by Kayla striking the baby in the back of the head and then choking him with her hands.

It was then that the infant boy stopped breathing, Brandon Edwards told police.

But the horror of Edwards’ confession didn’t stop there. He also admitted to the police that both he and his wife Kayla had choked both of the twins by squeezing their throats in the past. Edwards also admitted to investigators that he and his wife had tortured their twin babies by strapping them in their car seats and then turning the car seats upside down.

When investigators confronted Kayla Edwards with these allegations, it was then that she admitted that she had strangled her infant son to stop him from crying, and then admitted to additionally striking the infant in the head “really hard.” The blow to the baby’s head was severe enough to cause the brain bleed that killed him.

The surviving twin, whose injuries included bruising on the head, around the mouth, and the eyes, was taken into custody. Both Kayla Edwards and her husband Brandon remain in jail. They are scheduled to be arraigned in Yellowstone County District Court on Jan. 5.
