Jennifer Lopez DUI Case Brings Swift Justice

Jennifer Lopez was joined by her friend, former King of Queens star, Leah Remini, for a drive on September 27 to enjoy the day with their children. Along for the ride, Lopez and Remini were joined by Lopez’ 6-year-old twins, Max and Emme, riding with Remini’s daughter, Sofia, 10. Ms. Lopez was driving her 2014 Rolls Royce down Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, when her vehicle was suddenly hit from behind by a small pick-up truck, according to NY Daily News.

Although the driver of the pick-up truck fled the scene, he was picked up a short time later by police and identified as Robert John Reitz, 53, of Las Vegas. Reitz was tested and found to be 0.07 percent over the legal limit, which, in the state of California, is 0.08 percent, reported TMZ. Reitz allegedly crashed his vehicle into Jennifer Lopez’ Rolls Royce, before fleeing the scene and, although no injuries were reported, he still faces two misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated. There is no word on whether he will also be charged with fleeing the scene of an accident. Reitz will be arraigned immediately in the Lopez case in Van Nuys, California.

Lopez immediately took a photo, posting it to Instagram.

“Sitting at a light, Riding high right before some drunk fool rear ended us in my new whip!!! Thank god everyone ok!!!”

Taking the opportunity to turn the unnerving event into something more positive for the children, Lopez took an additional picture of Max, Emme, and Sofia, which she also posted to Instagram with hashtags “#Coconuts #Sofia #lunchwthekiddies #bigpimpin’ #brooklynindahouse.”

“These three cuties make my day!!”

It was not known if Mr. Reitz has yet retained an attorney, but, if found guilty of the charges stemming from the crash with Lopez, he will face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

When asked about her first reaction immediately following the accident, Jennifer responded with straightforward honesty.

“I was super scared that something that happened to the kids… They say in situations like that you fight, flight, freeze. I didn’t freeze, I fought, and I didn’t leave, I fought… I was like, ‘They were kids in the car! There were three kids in the car, what’s wrong with you?'”

Currently, Jennifer Lopez is scheduled to appear at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Ms. Lopez also appeared on the cover of the latest edition of Latina Magazine, joined by Ryan Guzman. Lopez and Guzman will be seen co-starring in the upcoming thriller, The Boy Next Door, due out in January of 2015.

Recently, Ms. Lopez made headlines for the revealing dress she wore to the People Magazine awards, reported in this Inquisitr article.
