Why The Han Solo Spin-Off May Be The Best Idea Since ‘Return Of The Jedi’

The Han Solo spin-off has been confirmed as the first of the Star Wars spin-offs, giving fans something to look forward to as Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 are filmed.

When the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens hit the internet and movie theaters, it drew a mixed reaction from fans who may have thought John Boyega’s appearance in a Storm Trooper outfit was a little jarring. It was one of the first indications that the new Star Wars might not be the film we’re looking for, but Boyega himself quickly told everybody to calm down.

Star Wars 7 has so far shown to feature mostly new unknown actors and actresses, with a few veterans and a new major role for Lord of the Rings veteran Andy Serkis. It appears that Luke, Leia, Han, and the droids will likely play a smaller role this time.

This is part of the reason why the Han Solo spin-off could be the best idea for the series since Return of the Jedi. The prequel trilogy let all but the most forgiving fans down, as it turned the beloved sith lord into a whiny kid for three movies, and Star Wars 7 is attempting to tread new water and throw out much of the canon from the popular books.

Also, after Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams has lost a lot of respect among moviegoers, so there is skepticism over him helming the new Star Wars.

Now we have a chance to see more of one of the most interesting characters in the original trilogy. We might see where he came from as well as possibly delve further into the history between him and Lando Calrissian. We might even see what led him to the Mos Eisley Cantina where he met Luke and Obi-Wan.

Fans will still want to see Luke and the others again, but Han Solo was the one who really drove the original trilogy with his pirate-like personality, shoot-first attitude, and cockiness with Princess Leia. After hearing about his exploits, it’s obvious that he went through a lot of trouble before he even met Luke, and there is likely a very interesting story we’ve never heard before.

The Han Solo spin-off could also give us a glimpse at the infamous game where Han won the Millennium Falcon and modified it to be the “fastest ship in the galaxy.” The film is sure to be grittier than the Star Wars movies we’ve come to know, and a welcome change of pace.

There is a lot we don’t yet know about the Han Solo spin-off, though it is rumored to be starring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul. The lack of information doesn’t stop this Star Wars spin-off from being one of the possibly most anticipated films since The Phantom Menace (let’s hope it turns out better though).
