Michael Jackson’s remaining family have been a recent focus in the media in the Middle East because his sister Janet married fashion mogul Wissam Al Mana, a Qatari national. Michael Jackson’s brothers are getting their own media attention because they are due to perform on Wednesday, December 31 at the Dubai Media City Amphitheater along with Chaka Khan, Chic and Nile Rodgers, Gloria Gaynor, Jocelyn Brown, Kathy Sledge and Incognito. The current lineup of The Jacksons are brothers Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and Jermaine.

Michael Jackson’s eldest brother, Jackie, told The National that performing in Dubai for New Year’s Eve was a great chance for him to get away from cold temperatures in America, but most of his comments ran much deeper than that and talked about their current and future music endeavors. Commenting on their brother Michael Jackson’s influence on their current music, Tito Jackson said,

“We are all about writing the best songs that we can. We just worked hard in crafting these good songs. We wanted to create something great, something that people could recognize later and adore. That, I think, has been the key to our longevity. I can hear it in songs by Bruno Mars and even the new songs by Nick Jonas. The good music is coming back again and that is very encouraging.”

About the NYE performance in Dubai, The Jacksons tell The National that they are not planning on doing a set that will be nostalgic of Michael Jackson’s work. The brothers are also planning a new album for 2015, and Tito Jackson says,

“We have been working on it between these tours. Although we are playing with some hip-hop sounds, we are not shying away from our own sound, because that is what people want to hear – and we also love that.”

At the Jacksons Source website, it shows that they have played about 50 shows in 2014 with a majority of them being in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and 20 major cities around the world.

About touring after being dormant as a group for 30 years, Jackie Jackson told Time Out Dubai,

I mean, coming back after 30 years to do that was something special because we really didn’t know what to expect because we haven’t been on the stage in a long time. We got together and we met and talked things over before we did any music and just tried to put a song list together that we thought the fans would really want to hear. So when we went to the rehearsal hall, everything just fell together.”

About performing in Dubai for New Year’s Eve, Jackie Jackson told Time Out Dubai,

“We’re gonna have a lot of fun, it’s going to be one big party. We will sing all the hits that you know and we gonna light it up! It’s New Year’s! Tell everyone to bring their dancing shoes because we gonna have them dancing all night.”

In regards to what it means to be Michael Jackson’s brother and brother to the remaining Jackson brothers, Jackie Jackson also stated,

“It makes it easier because we are brothers and although all brothers have their differences, we love each other dearly. The one thing is we will always be brothers, so if we were friends in a group, one of us would probably just say ‘I don’t want to deal with these guys’ but when you are brothers there is a love there that you just can’t run away from. [About Mary J Blige’s comment about Michael Jackson] I agree with her. He gave so much all the time and that’s something he’s always done is give a lot to his fans. That’s why he’s so successful so that’s why he catered to them because the fans are the ones who made him.”

The day after the New Year’s Eve performance in Dubai, The Jackson Source states that Jermaine Jackson will do a guest appearance at the Viva Africa musical showcase featuring Africa’s top musical sensations. About plans for 2015, Tito Jackson tells the United Arab Emirates publication What’s On,

We’re going to continue touring, making records and just doing our thing. We’ve got a big tour coming up next year, hopefully worldwide. We have fans everywhere, and there are actually a few places that we haven’t been to for a while which we’d like to go back to – like South America. And there’s a TV special in the pipeline too.”
