One Direction Are The Best Band Of 2014, This Is Why

In the eyes of their legions of fans, One Direction are quite simply the biggest and best band on planet Earth. Metro has provided a list of reasons as to why One Direction have been so dominant in the world of popular music, and it must be said, in the celebrity gossip columns.

One Direction was put together in 2010 on the UK talent show X Factor. Prior to the show, the boys — Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik — had never even met. Ironically, One Direction didn’t even win the show (they came third), but they have grown and improved year on year ever since, and 2014 proved to be the year that One Direction achieved world domination.

Look at some of the facts. The One Direction Where We Are tour traversed all corners of the planet netting the band a cool £185 million profit. It is estimated that a mind-boggling 3.4 million people saw the tour. The boys even made a second movie on the back of the tour. But who knows what the 80-date worldwide 2015 tour will bring?

At the end of the day, One Direction are a band, it is the music that matters most to the fans, and they didn’t disappoint on that front either.

They topped the charts with new single “Steal My Girl,” and graced Directioners with a new album, Four. Easily their best work yet, the album featured writing credits from Ed Sheeran amongst others. The album topped the charts in many countries across the world. One Direction members Harry and Liam have writing credits on other bands’ albums, and the band appeared on two massive charity singles.

One Direction have been so successful that the Sunday Mirror is reporting today that they have waived their usual $2 million fee to appear with their old pal, James Corden, when he takes over the iconic Late Late Show in March 2015.

Of course, it isn’t always easy being in One Direction. These are young guys who were shoved dramatically into the limelight, and they are bound to do silly things on occasion. While on tour in Peru Louis and Zayn were embarrassed when a video of them allegedly smoking cannabis was leaked to the internet.

There have also been spats with other bands on Twitter, and several of the boys have had health issues with allegations made that Zayn Malik missed the bands album launch as a result of substance abuse. There have been reports that Malik is struggling with the trappings of fame, and it was reported in the Inquisitr recently that he could even quit One Direction when their current contract expires at the end of 2015.

Unreality TV claims that Liam Payne regrets scaring the life out of his fans when he went for a late night stroll outside the balcony of his London apartment. Payne was later to apologize on Twitter for his late night stunt.

The Star reported earlier this week that One Direction have not received a nomination for a best song Grammy this year, the second year in a row that this has happened. It just goes to prove that even when you are One Direction, things don’t always go your way.

That said, who would bet against One Direction being even more dominant in 2015? It looks to be yet another great year for the band.
