Verizon Wireless users reporting widespread data outages across the US

If you’ve been experiencing difficulties connecting with your Verizon-serviced smartphone of choice, you’re not alone. Users from many states across the U.S. are reporting data outages that prevent them from accessing the network.

It isn’t known at the moment just how many states are being impacted by the data outage, but users from California, Colorado, Washington, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Wisconsin, and many more states are reporting difficulties connecting to Verizon’s network, so it appears to be very widespread.

“4G is sporadic in Greater Boston. Had to set my phone to CDMA only this morning to get any internet at all. At the moment 4G is up in downtown Boston, but we will see if it lasts,” one commenter wrote on Verizon Wireless’ support forums.

The Verizon outages appear to be affecting both 3G and 4G networks, although Engadget reports that Verizon’s 3G CDMA network is, at least for now, functional for them, but availability in your area may differ. The 4G LTE network, on the other hand, remains down for all.

Verizon has yet to make a statement addressing the outages – The Verge reports that while a support representative confirmed that there were, in fact, outages, they weren’t allowed to discuss the extent of the problem, or a possible cause, to the press.
