Many have thought that Jackie Chan, the famous martial arts actor, was going to retire, but that appears to be the farthest thing from the truth. The first trailer for Dragon Blade, his most-recently completed film, has now been released online, and it looks as if some really big and epic things are to come.
According to Coming Soon, a domestic release date has not yet been unveiled, but those in China will be able to see Dragon Blade on February 18, 2015, in regular, 3D, and IMAX 3D.
Dragon Blade is set in China during the Han dynasty that lasted from 206 until 220 C.E.
As Slash Film reported, the film features Adrien Brody playing the role of Tiberius, a Roman general who is attempting to take full control over the “silk road.” John Cusack plays the part of another Roman general named Lucius who is allied with a Chinese officer (Jackie Chan) named Huo An.
Huo An has been framed and enslaved for a crime he did not commit, and he receives help from Lucius who then, in turn, receives help from Huo in attempting to stop Tiberius.
The “silk road” is the overland trade route that ran all the way from China to the West and was used by virtually anyone and everyone.
Honestly, Dragon Blade looks extremely off the wall, but it is intriguing all at the same time. Collider even goes as far as to say that it “looks insane,” and they appear to be right on the money with that assessment.
The combination of talent in the film is weird, but it seems to work in a very strange way. Seeing Cusack in that type of Roman gear is just one thing that many never would have expected to see.
At the same time, others can go ahead and admit that seeing Jackie Chan and Adrien Brody battling it out with swords was never expected either. Still, that’s just a few of the things that Dragon Blade brings to the table.
Hopefully, there will be a release date for the United States sometime in 2015, and all of the insanity of Dragon Blade will come to domestic theaters. Even though Chan hasn’t retired yet, there may not be a lot of time left on screen for the action star.
Dragon Blade stars Jackie Chan, John Cusack, Adrien Brody, Si Won Choi, Peng Li, and Asharni Vinson. Daniel Lee directed the historical action flick, and the film is produced by Chan and Susanna Tsang.
