Rob O’Neill, the Navy SEAL who reportedly shot and killed Osama bin Laden, is now under investigation for potentially revealing classified information, according to Navy officials, and for one former Democratic representative, that’s to be expected.
Former Pennsylvania Rep. Patrick Murphy, who was defeated in the 2010 midterm election, believes that O’Neill shouldn’t be “above the law,” and he said as much on MSNBC Friday morning.
“The administration has been very clear since day one: they do not have any towers for people who break the law. You take an oath to serve the country, you take an oath not to disclose secret or classified information, and they’re investigating whether or not that happened or not.”
Murphy added that he hoped Rob O’Neill revealing classified details “wasn’t the case,” but if so, “he should be held accountable.”
U.S. Navy spokesman Ryan Perry confirmed the investigation in comments to the Associated Foreign Press.
“The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is in receipt of an allegation that Mr O’Neill may have revealed classified information to persons not authorized to receive such information,” Perry said in an email. “In response, NCIS has initiated an investigation to determine the merit of the allegations.”
The claim that Rob O’Neill shot Bin Laden has been disputed by another former Navy SEAL, Matt Bissonnette, whose 2012 book No Easy Day tells a different story.
“Two different people telling two different stories for two different reasons,” Bissonnette said. “Whatever he says, he says. I don’t want to touch that.”
In a previous Inquisitr story regarding Rob O’Neill, the SEAL said that Osama bin Laden “died like a p***y.”
Apparently, as vicious of a terrorist as bin Laden was, O’Neill recounts a version of events where he puts three bullets into the cowering leader upon storming his compound with a team of other SEALs.
“You can quote me on this bulls***,” he said in an audio clip that originally aired on CNN. The tape, recorded by freelance journalist Alex Quade, revealed that O’Neill used details of bin Laden’s death to provide comfort to 9/11 families.
“I tell them, ‘Alright, Osama bin Laden died like a p***y. That’s all I’m telling you. Just so you know. He died afraid. And he knew that we were there to kill him. And that’s closure.’ Regardless of the negativity that comes with it. I don’t give a f***. We got him.”
What do you think really happened, readers, and is this former representative right to say that Rob O’Neill should be held accountable? Also, if he is found guilty, should President Obama issue a pardon?
