Rory Curtis Believes He’s Actor Matthew McConaughey After 6 Days In Coma

Rory Curtis was in a bad car accident that left him in a coma, but when he woke up, he thought that he was someone else; someone famous. According to the Huffington Post, Curtis was in a coma for six days back in 2012 after suffering a brain hemorrhage. When he woke up from the coma, he actually thought that he was American actor, Matthew McConaughey.

“I cannot remember much but I know in my head I thought I was Matthew McConaughey. When I went to the toilet I went to look in the mirror and I was shocked because I didn’t look like him, I didn’t know what I was looking at. Then slowly over time it eventually clicked and I thought ‘He is an actor, what am I on about?’ I was convinced I was him and that I had his good looks as well — I know it was hopeful thinking really.”

Rory Curtis experienced something else that was really strange. The 25-year-old was able to speak fluent French, which is something he couldn’t do before the accident. Even after he left the hospital, Curtis was still able to have a conversation in the foreign language, accent and all. According to Scallywag And Vagabond, the British footballer thought his ability to speak French was “incredible.”

“I don’t remember coming round but my family said one of the nurses was from Africa and spoke French and I was having conversations with her. I was just casually chatting away about how I was feeling in this perfect French accent. My mum and dad were stunned when they got to hospital and the nurse asked them what side of the family was French. And then I was sitting there spouting a foreign language from my hospital bed acting all French. It wasn’t me at all.”

After the accident, Rory Curtis was approached by the National Institute for Health Research Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre. After being examined, Curtis met with doctors, and agreed to be treated with an experimental drug according to InTouch Weekly. That drug may be responsible for getting Curtis back on his feet (and back in his right state of mind). However, to this day Curtis can still speak fluent French, though he no longer thinks that he is Matthew McConaughey.
