State auditors recently looked into Mayor Greg Davis’ spending habits and found that he spent state money at a gay sex store in Ontario. But why would Davis, who ran for congress on a “family values” platform, visit a gay book shop? Well, the father of three is gay.
“At this point in my life and in my career, while I have tried to maintain separation between my personal and public life, it is obvious that this can no longer remain the case… While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual — and still continue to be a very conservative individual — I think that it is important that I discuss the struggles I have had over the last few years when I came to the realization that I am gay.”
The Huffington Post reports that Davis spent $67 at Priape, a Toronto store that is billed as “Canada’s premiere gay lifestyle store and sex shop.”
But people in Mississippi aren’t to concerned with the fact that Davis is gay or that he spent state money at Priape. They’re a little more concerned that Davis allegedly misused $170,000 on both city-issued and personal credit cards.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering told Fox News:
“These expenses submitted by Mayor Davis as official events and purchases on behalf of the city are a betrayal of the public’s trust, and I intend to pursue the recovery of this money to the fullest extent of the law.
Davis allegedly used state funds on clothes, family counseling, personal meals, and entertainment.
During one dinner there last June, the bill for grilled fish and a martini totaled $37.88. Davis left a $100 tip. A month later, he bought $36.52 in a round of beers at the restaurant and again tipped the waiter $100.
What’s the bigger scandal? The fact that Mayor Greg Davis is gay? Or that he allegedly stole money from the government?
