Amid Criticism, Mariah Carey Gets Praise From Lady Gaga

Mariah Carey has been having a rough year. There was the separation from the father of her children and husband of six years, Nick Cannon. The pair who married back in April of 2008 and who have 3-year-old twins separated back in August of this year. Nick Cannon then went on to share with Good Morning America that they would not be getting back together at a taping earlier this month.

And then there was that performance at the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting that left many people speechless. Carey is known for hitting those spectacularly high notes, and yet, she seemed to somehow be a little off.

Now a former assistant is suing Carey for being “overworked” according to Perez Hilton. It’s just one thing after another for the pop diva this year.

But just last night, Lady Gaga visited Carey at Beacon Theater in New York City. Carey has had a “holiday-themed gig” there according to Billboard that began back on December 15. While Carey is known for her Christmas hits, critics have had some not-so-nice things to say about her performance, though, commenting that, “Mariah has lost her touch…” Ouch.

But last night, which marked the second to last performance for Carey there, who should visit her backstage other than the Pop Art diva herself, Lady Gaga!

The “Born This Way” singer and supreme diva Carey took a couple selfies, which Gaga posted on Instagram later last night. Fans were over the moon about the photos, hoping that the two would duet at some point. Gaga captions one photo, “This lady is so kind, such a star, and sounding legendary tonight at Beacon Theater.”

It’s about time someone had something nice to say about Carey. Carey has blown audiences away in the past with her renditions of Christmas classics like “Joy to the World,” and her hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has become a holiday staple, no playlist complete without the it.

And although many have had harsh words for Carey, she has remarked “I can’t imagine being anywhere more special than live on stage, in my hometown, celebrating with my fans during the Christmas season, my most treasured time of the year.”

Carey has one last performance tonight, December 22, at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Let’s hope that Gaga’s kind words have reminded the star about her own power, and that Mariah Carey will bring down the house tonight, proving her critics wrong.
