Most health experts usually center being healthy on four major factors: diet, exercise, not smoking, and not drinking. However, there are certain lifestyle activities that might be better or worse for one’s individual health, despite the fact doctors don’t place much importance on them. The Inquisitr reported on one of these unique point, in which there is higher importance on stress and community for overall health.

However, there was a unique study that was reported, last year, on the effects of sitting down. For most people, sitting down seems like a neutral state for relaxation. Unfortunately, there can be health repercussions if one were to sit down for too long. Before, cancer was linked to sitting down too long. Now there is a video that shows there is a lot more that may occur.

According to a video by AsapSCIENCE, there is a smorgasbord of health issues possible when one sits down for too long. The aggressiveness of the issues depends on the length of time. For starters, bodily activity drops down dramatically to a point it burns only one calorie per minute on initiation. Three hours later, there is a significant drop in artery dilation. After a full 24 hours, the intake of insulin drops by 40 percent, which increases the chance of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The above details are easy to relate to because people can sit for up to 24 hours depending on the situation. But what of more intense circumstances? Sitting down for two weeks for six hours a day results in an increase of LDL cholesterol, which increases weight gain. This amount of time also equates to muscle atrophy, which makes it harder for the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body.

Increase the length from two weeks to one year at six hours per day, people lose bone mass by one percent every year. Finally, increase the length from 10 to 20 years at six hours per day, people may have lost up to seven quality-adjusted life years.
